Yonder Mountain String Band

I just got back from the show, and wow am i happy i got the email about the show.

i first saw em as one of the opening acts for Dave Matthews @ Randall's Island, but tonight they headlined their own show, and it was a double set!!!! i got there at 7 and the place was empty, it didn't fill up till round 8 when they got on stage, i was able to stand front and center and had plenty of room, it remained that way for the whole show.

the first set was about an hour and it was amazing, then we all ran to watch the Mets kick ass in the playoffs till Yonder got back on stage for the second set, which lasted 90 minutes or so, they played all of their great songs in this set, not to put down the first set, but the second set just blew me away! the did two covers in this set, the first was the second or third song in, was "Dear Prudence" by the Beatles, and the next was the encore it was "Good Bye Blue Sky" by Pink Floyd. its cool to do a cover or two in middle of your set, but as an encore i think its extremely lame, i mean i like to leave the show with the artists music in my head, but i left this show with the music of Pink Floyd, not that its a bad thing, I just don't like it. All in all the show rocked.

i am not a fan of bluegrass, or maybe i am, I love there music some of there songs rock hard, and some of em are as mellow as some of Elliot Smith's material. i wold defiantly see em again, even if they are not headlining.

now i found out something very disturbing in middle of the sets, this October 31st, the greatest day of the year after Christmas, i have tickets to see Birdmonster, and i have seen em twice already this year, but they rock and i love the band, but i was told that Medeski, Martin & Wood are playing Hammerstein Ballroom the same night, so now i have to decide which show to go to.... its a tough choice.....

After the show i headed uptown to meet some DJ who bought my extra Killer's Tickets, then i went home....

as always i will post pics when i get a chance...

This month is gonna rock CMJ is in 3 weeks and i cant wait, a whole 6 days in a row of great music in NYC, and i will be there for most of it...

so far i got tix to
Birdmonster/ Irving - 10/31 - Piano's
Tape 'n Tapes / Cold War Kids - 11/1 - Bowery Ballroom
Alice in Chains - 11/2 - Nokia Theatre

and during the day there are free shows throughout the city that i will be hopping around at... wow i am like a kid in a candy shop, i am so damn excited....
